Higgins Ink put out this great book on cartooning during World War II. Although it was reprinted up into the 1960s, I made the scans from a coverless copy of the original printing, which I have owned for many years.
I think it's not only instructional, it was one of the first books I ever owned that told me of comic strips and cartooning from before I was born.
