The Thrill That Comes Once In a Lifetime

Excerpts from THE BEST OF H.T. WEBSTER, published in 1953.

Harold Tucker Webster, a popular cartoonist for decades, did several features including "How to Torture Your Wife," "How to Torture Your Husband," "The Unseen Audience," and his most popular, The Timid Soul. Another of his popular panels was "The Thrill That Comes Once In a Lifetime." These panels, which spread over 30 years (the earliest one I could see was from 1916, the latest from 1947), bring a gentle and nostalgic look to America of the early Twentieth Century.

I hope to see more of this great stuff here around. Well, just when you get a chance, of course! Needless to say, I'll link this post on my blog--

  2. As I said to the other Eyeball, my reäction to your earlier samples from Best provoked me to quickly track-down and order a copy of the original printing.

  3. Fourth from the bottom, "The time SHE fixed your tie for you." Shary Flenniken has stated that she got the Pepsi character in Trots & Bonnie from this Webster drawing.
