Frank Belknap Long was a frequent contributor to WEIRD TALES. He was also a personal friend of H. P. Lovecraft and other writers in that eerie genre. Long was also a prolific writer of science fiction. He was born in 1903 (some accounts say 1901) and died in 1994. This introduction to his book, THE EARLY LONG, tells the story of his early life, his writing career and his friendship with Lovecraft.
HGE: I love this genre of fiction; with my favs being Robert E. Howard and Clark Ashton Smith (these guys really seemed to love the three name or double initial names, didn't they?); so you know I am loving this post. I am not familiar with Long at all, so this post is a real eye-opener! -- Mykal
According to Pappy's blog, Frank Belknap Long also wrote the first two issues of ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN, establishing the supernatural comic book genre.

ReplyDeleteI remember finding The Early Long at the library back in the 70's... One story about a "Ghoul Sack" has never quite left me after all these years.
